Personality: Getting on the wrong side of the temperamental Ruby or catching her in one of her bad moods can be a migraine-inducing circumstance. Ruby is unbearable on her bad days - her bossiness and tendency to nit-pick become honed to an extreme. She can also be very demanding, fickle and childish; the drama-mama doesn't take kindly to criticism and can be deeply affected when her pride is hurt.

Faults aside, Ruby does have a number of plus points to her character. She is a streetsmart social butterfly with a straightfoward demeanour and knowledge of how to deal with different kinds of people (this includes arm-twisting, of course), and she is very capable of taking care of herself. Ruby can be amiable, kind on occasion and very supportive, particularly towards people that she genuinely cares about. Her determinedness (some say obstinacy) means that she is a great person to have on your side and for your cause.

Although Ruby is highly materialistic and primarily preoccupied with fame and wealth, she is not necessarily a shallow or superficial individual. There is also little room for hatred or bitterness in her heart. She more or less has her heart in the right place, but must first become aware of how important her 'family' is to her.

BIOGRAPHY:

Ruby's earliest memories were of her days spent at Kramer Orphanage. She was there until age seven, functioning as an older-sister of sorts to the kids and their best ringleader and entertainer. The girl was dramatic and high-spirited from a young age, and naturally the children tended to cluster around her. Happy as she was in those days, Kramer Orphanage was too tiny for the ambitious young girl. She was always waiting to leave, waiting for something... more.

Ruby's wish was granted at ten, when she was finally adopted. But the dream was quickly shattered very shortly after she entered her new family. Her new parents never satisfied her expectations of a father and mother, and neither did she ever satisfy her foster parents' expectations of a daughter. Ruby was constantly neglected at home, and the house became a prison for the free-spirited girl. She had assumed her parents to be rich, but they never showered her with gifts as she had hoped they would. She threw tantrums at a devilish rate, and once news of her regular truancy from school and falling into not-so-good company reached her parents' ears, it became clear that Ruby was to be sent back to the orphanage.

Ruby was devastated by the news. Of couse she had in part earned this, but weren't parents supposed to never to give up on their children no matter what? And she didn't want to go back to the orphanage either - how could she ever live down that humiliation? The result of this was that Ruby fled from her house before the date of her re-arrival at her 'old home'. She was only thirteen then. The next few months were spent running around with a bunch of street urchins who opened Ruby's eyes to the tough ways of the world and all its vices. Thankfully, Ruby sailed past this tumultous period on Lady Fortune's wings; she made it without a scratch, and the only vice she did pick up in the end was that of compulsive gambling.

Luck did indeed seem to be entirely on Ruby's side. The great turning point of Ruby's life came the day she and her 'gang' broke into Tantalus Theatre during the night of a great performance. Ruby would never forget how enchanted and bedazzled she was that night as she watched the play in secret - the world of theatre, with all its glamour and glitter and colour, seemed to be the stepping stone to fulfilling all her dreams in one shot.

Inevitably, all of Ruby's friends were caught and rounded up that very evening, subject to huge 'disciplinary action' take by the Director himself, but only Ruby saw her big break - and leapt straight for it. Hours of melodrama, exaggerated sob-stories, pleas for discipleship (to Baku) and bucketfuls of crocodile tears later (although of course Baku didn't fall for all of it), Ruby was taken into Papa Tantalus' home and care.

Ruby has never looked back since. She grew confidently under Baku's care, honing her voice and acting talents greatly. Having never been academically inclined, Ruby did not manage to get into university. She does, however, continue to take a few courses and lessons in theatre (acting and stage/costume design) in her spare time (though she absolutely abhors the 'theory' component of it). She has never been a great student of literature and may arrive at inaccurate interpretations of the character she plays; her acting has often received very mixed reviews. But there is no denying her incredible stage presence. And Ruby tries. She tries very hard indeed, and a promising future in the dream career of her choice may not be all that implausible for her after all.

Because Ruby has an impeccable sense of style, there is no one more fitting for co-running A Doll's House, a small, alternative fashion boutique in Gold Saucer Shopping Mall. Ruby's dressing is 'themed'; she has in stock a myriad of looks ranging from 'cowboy' to Lolita depending on her mood from day to day. Her flamboyant, eye-catching attire often attracts the wrong sort of attention from hot-blooded males, but in reality Ruby has little romantic experience in the sense that she has never had an intimate relationship with anyone, and doesn't see the need for love. Ruby's 'experience' is limited simply to mercilessly rejecting one man after another. At the prospect of receiving more material possessions and costly gifts, however, she is known to flirt and give a little encouragement.

Although Ruby has largely accepted her past and no longer broods about her 'abandonment' by her foster parents, the experience has inevitably and unconsciously left its scars. Ruby's high-strung and materialistic tendencies are still around, and the unreasonable demands she often makes of people around her, especially those in 'Prima Vista' (the individuals she loves most) are a result of an underlying insecurity.
